Why not flip flops?
Because we are serious about feet and we love our beaches.
We set off 2 years ago to make flip flops better, however, through all our research, design, engineering, talking to our customers, we ended up designing a new style of beach footwear that met the needs of The Herd, the SeaPigs Drifters.
“MILLIONS OF FLIP FLOPS ARE DISCARDED EVERY DAY”
BLUE OCEAN 2018
Flip flops are the highest-selling form of footwear in the world. They have a relatively short lifespan - typically two years - considering the raw material lasts forever. From the Middle East, to China, to Africa to the soles of your very own feet, every pair of flip flops ever made has been on an epic journey. And then once we are done with them all, into landfill, onto our beaches and into our oceans they go, ruining our planet. SeaPigs are determined for this to change.
This inspired us to make sustainable by design footwear, or, beach footwear that doesn’t cost the earth. With your help we found a way to ensure we take responsibility for our products after use.

Leaving Positive Footprints
“We use plastic - or have done until now - with total abandon, without any care or concern about where it's going to go and what it might do”
Sir David Attenborough, May 2018
some Great words from a ‘blue planet’ legend….
Thirdly, is Plastic the problem?
Plastic is a fantastic product, a feat of ingenuity; one of the most versatile and useful inventions in modern history. However,
“Today we use plastic which is a material that is designed to last forever, for products designed to last minutes.”
Plastic is not the problem, its the way we use it. At SeaPigs we truly believe that the only way to become more sustainable is to ensure we design the product and manage its full lifecycle or we call it ‘sustainable by design’. We will be using the power of nature to make our products, perhaps with a tiny bit of recycled plastic as thread (so we don’t have to use glue). We are using the power of the tree to make our footwear, the bark from the mighty cork oak tree and the latex from the rubber tree. Two environmentally friendly, 100% natural and carbon neutral natural materials, oh and they are perfect for footwear, strong, soft, adaptable, comfortable and durable.
